Bandeira de Oxalá

Pontos

The pontos sung in the house, as they’re taught in class — the recordings, the words in Portuguese with English beside them, and the full lessons they come from. Learn them at home, sing them with the house.

What it is

A songbook for the pontos of Bandeira de Oxalá, organised by Orixá and linha the way the hinário is. Each ponto has the words, an English translation, and — for the ones taught in class — a recording of the class singing it, cut from Maracajá’s lessons so it starts at the first line and ends with the last.

How it works

  1. Pick an Orixá

Choose a tab — Oxalá, Oxum, Ogum, Erês and the rest. The page takes on that Orixá’s colours.

  2. Press play

A ponto plays, then the next, through the whole tab — like being in the room. Previous, Next and Stop are always at the bottom of the screen.

  3. Follow the words

Open Lyrics to read along in Portuguese with the English translation next to it. It follows the song that’s playing.

  4. Go back to the class

Play Lesson opens the whole class recording with a transcript and its translation, so you hear how each ponto was explained. The interpreter’s English is skipped unless you turn on Play translations.

  5. Keep your own list

Star the pontos you’re working on. Your favourites, and your colour theme, follow you to your phone and computer. Play them in order or shuffled.

  6. Find and share

Search every tab by a word you remember. Send anyone a link that opens straight to one ponto.

Questions

Do I need an account to look around?
No. Every tab and every ponto’s words are open to read, and Oxumaré plays in full. An account (just your email) is needed for the trial and for favourites.
What if I forget to cancel the trial?
You’ll get an email a few days before it ends. If you’re charged and didn’t mean to be, ask within 7 days for a full refund.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes — it’s made for phones first. Recordings keep playing one after another, and you can add it to your home screen.
Where does the money go?
Straight to the house, through Stripe. The card details go to Stripe, never to this site.
